Moringa: the most complete source of nutrition on earth
The moringa tree, also known as the tree of life, grows on dry, sandy soils in India, Africa and other (sub-) tropical regions. It is not just the leaves but also the flowers, seeds and roots of the remarkable moringa that are so nutritious. In the West, the tree is growing in popularity as a strong and healthy source of nourishment.
Spinach from the tree
The local populations mainly make use of the boiled leaves of the tree as a rich daily source of nutrition. Particularly in areas where it is not possible to grow vegetables in quantity, the moringa provides a healthy daily dose of vitamins, proteins, minerals and fibres. For example, the leaves contain at least twelve times more iron than spinach! This means that the tree is almost literally a lifesaver in many third-world countries or areas of the (sub-) tropics where there is generally a shortage of food.
Dried moringa leaves contain:
- 5 times more potassium than bananas
- 4 times more fibres than oats
- 14 times more calcium than milk
- 12 times more iron than spinach
- 2 times more vitamin A than carrots
- 8 times more protein than yoghurt
Super-tree
Western science has now also discovered the moringa and the tree is often referred to as the most complete source of nutrition on earth. There seems to be almost no limits to this exceptional nutritional value, since moringa also contains numerous essential amino-acids and natural anti-oxidants, such as vitamin C, flavonoids and carotenoids. Dried powder made from the leaves is popular with people who for various reasons wish to supplement their daily diet. This powder can be used in smoothies or fruit juices, bread, cakes, biscuits, jams and other ‘functional’ foodstuffs.
A boost for your skin
Moringa powder can even be used as a face mask! The numerous vitamins, minerals and anti-oxidants give your skin a healthy boost and ensure a radiant complexion. Mix a coffee spoon of moringa powder with the juice of half a lemon and a coffee spoon of honey. Stir until you have a firm paste and apply to the skin of your face (but keep your eyes free). Remove the mask after 20 minutes with lukewarm water. Your skin will glow with health!
Blood sugar and cholesterol
Scientific studies have shown that moringa has a positive effect on blood sugar levels in cases of type-2 diabetes. Patients with untreated type-2 diabetes were given a daily supplement of 8 grams of moringa powder, following which their blood sugar levels fell, both after meals and on an empty stomach. Moringa also has a beneficial impact on cholesterol levels. Research has indicated that the daily use of between 4.6 and 8 grams of moringa powder can reduce overall cholesterol levels, while at the same time increasing the amount of good cholesterol (HDL).
Biotona Moringa 100% Raw Powder is obtained from the shadow-dried leaves of organically grown moringa trees from India and Africa. This careful drying process ensures that the leaves lose none of their rich nutritional goodness.
