The health-giving enjoyment of coconut milk

Is coconut milk healthy? You bet! Coconut milk is packed full with vitamins and minerals, and is easy to digest. It also contains excellent health-giving fats, which makes it a great alternative for cow’s milk.

The best of the coconut

Healthy fats

Coconut oil is a stable oil that is heat-resistant, non-perishable and does not easily oxidise into trans fat. The specific fatty acids (medium chain fatty acids or MCFAs) in this oil are easily absorbed by the blood via the intestines, before being converted into energy. In contrast to long chain fatty acids, these medium chains provide immediate energy and accumulate much less quickly as body fat. This not only prevents you from putting on weight, but also helps you to avoid heart and vascular diseases!

Nonsense about coconut milk

For many years, coconut milk has wrongly been ‘accused’ of increasing blood cholesterol levels to dangerous heights. However, recent research has shown that it is only trans fats that are harmful to health, while the saturated fats have much less of an impact on high levels of cholesterol than was previously thought.

Improved resistance

Coconut oil contains ±50% lauric acid (another MCFA), which is also found in mother’s milk (!) and protects us from harmful bacteria, fungi and viruses.
