Curcuma: a hyper-healthy hype
Thanks to the curcuma latte hype, this spice has become really hip! And that’s hardly surprising – because this prime Indian spice is not only deliciously flavorsome, but also good for your health. It helps to combat inflammation, has a positive effect on your liver, heart and skin, and improves your general bodily resistance.
GOLDEN GOODNESS
The curcuma root, also known as Indian saffron and turmeric, is a member of the ginger family. Its outward appearance is similar to ginger, but curcuma is smaller and the root has an orange colour under its outer peel. In oriental cooking, curcuma (botanical name: Curcuma longa) is wildly used for its mildly bitter flavour; for example, in dishes such as Indian and Indonesian curry and bumbu. The root also gives recipes a wonderful golden colour and a fragrant aroma.
POWERFUL ANTI-OXIDANT
As well as being tasty, curcuma is also healthy. In traditional Indian healing (the Ayurveda), the root has been used for centuries for medicinal purposes. Nowadays, it can either be added to food or ingested orally as a dietary supplement. Among its many benefits, curcuma is a powerful anti-oxidant that helps to combat inflammation. It also supports supple and healthy joints, as well as giving a boost to your body’s natural ability to resist infection.
FROM ROOT TO POWDER
So that western customers can also enjoy the benefits of this exotic spice to the full, Biotona launched its Bio Curcuma Raw. This is made from 100% organically grown curcuma roots from India and Sri Lanka. After harvesting and selection, the roots are dried and converted into a powder that in terms of flavour, aroma and colour closely resembles the fresh root. The special drying process allows Biotona to retain all the root’s natural nutrients and phytonutrients to the maximum possible extent. During this process, the temperature remains under 42° Celsius – hence the use of the word ‘Raw’ in the product’s name. This guarantees that none of the health-giving vitamins, minerals and enzymes – including the active ingredient curcumin, part of the curcuminoid complex – are lost.
DAILY USE
Apart from its inclusion in exotic oriental dishes, you can also add Biotona Bio Curcuma Raw to lots of other daily meals and snacks. It’s great with coffee, where you can use it to make a delicious golden-coloured latte, combining a dash of espresso with a teaspoon of curcuma powder to create a real feel-good drink with a surprisingly spicy taste. You also add Biotona Bio Curcuma Raw to smoothies and shakes in combination with fruit or juices, other superfoods and vegetable milk (for example, with your breakfast cereal).
MAKING THE RIGHT CHOICE
Why is Biotona Bio Curcuma Raw better than the other curcuma powders you can buy in the supermarket? First and foremost, Biotona’s curcuma is 100% biologically grown. What’s more, the special drying and powdering process allows all the health-giving active ingredients to be retained, which is not the case with ordinary curcuma powders. Of course, you can also find fresh curcuma roots in some shops, but often customers find it hard to tell where they come from and how fresh they are. This is not a problem with Biotona Bio Curcuma Raw: we only work with fresh roots and their origin is clearly stated on the packaging. As a result, maximum retention of all the most beneficial elements is guaranteed. These benefits can also be further enhanced by the use of curcuma supplements, such as Physalis Curcum Active. The curcuminoid complexes are 95 times more easily absorbed and can therefore have an even greater health-giving impact on your joints, liver, skin, and heart, as well as giving a shot in the arm to your natural resistance.
