Cranberries: superberries for the bladder
Cranberries are tiny vitamin bombs that have numerous health-giving properties. They are perhaps best known for the treatment and prevention of urinary infections. Biotona Cranberry Juice is the five-times concentrated pure juice of organically cultivated cranberries from Canada, packed full with anti-oxidants and vitamins!
Cranberries are fast-growing, berry-bearing shrubs that in the Netherlands grow exclusively on the sandy dunes of Terschelling. A barrel of cranberries was found by beachcombers during the 19th century and tipped out onto dunes, thereafter spreading naturally to cover much of the island. The berries are now harvested from the wild and processed locally into jam, juices, sauces and tea. The cranberries used by Biotona come from their original habitat in Canada.
Vitamin C
Cranberries are famed for their high vitamin C content, but the sour berries also contain vitamins E, B5, B6 and K, as well as being rich in minerals such as manganese, copper, iron, potassium and calcium.
Solving bladder problems
The proanthocyanidins and the fruit sugar mannose contained in cranberries are reputed to be able to prevent and remedy complaints of the bladder and the urinary tracts. Their secret is a combination of the powerful anti-oxidative effect of the proanthocyanidins and the fact that mannose, which attach to the walls of the bladder, therefore deny bacteria the opportunity to establish themselves. In addition, the vitamin C in the berries makes the urine extra acidic, so that it is hard for any bacteria present to survive.
A dash of Biotona Cranberry Juice added to your daily consumption of (mineral) water not only gives it a refreshingly bitter flavour, but also provides protection for women who are sensitive to inflammation of the bladder. Even so, be careful: if you think you are suffering from an inflamed bladder, always consult your doctor.
Immune boost
Cranberries also give your immune system a real boost, thanks to all the phytonutrients and anti-oxidants they contain. The berries also have a positive influence on the heart and arteries, due principally to the presence of various anti-inflammatory substances. Last but not least, cranberries are said to be good for the digestion. And if you believe the true cranberry-lovers, they can further be used to combat a whole range of other ailments.
