Biotona is always on the look-out for special ingredients that can offer a special added value. That is why we have decided to choose a new variety of cacao for our Biotona Cacao Raw. The cacao in question is Trinitario cacao from the Dominican Republic, which has a flavour that is more accessible than with most kinds of cacao. What's more, our new supplier is a family-run company that supports local projects and makes a priority of sustainability.

The cacao used by Biotona is 100% pure and raw. Raw means that the cacao has not been chemically processed, but has been obtained from the cold pressing of fermented and sun-dried cacao beans. In this way, the cacao retains all its health-giving phytonutrients and anti-oxidants. Pure cacao is not only good for your health, but is also good for your general mood and vitality, as well as giving you lots of extra energy!

Passion and comfort

The passion for chocolate not only comes from its delicious flavour and its pleasing structure, but also because it gives you a slightly euphoric feeling. This is explained by the chemical composition of cacao. For example, it activates tryptophan, an essential amino acid that helps to reduce anxiety.

Cacao also contains a natural amphetamine (phenylethylamine) that releases dopamine in the brain – and it is this that creates a mild sense of euphoria. Phenylethylamine likewise plays an important role in the process of feeling passion or love.

In addition, chocolate contains other bio-active substances, such as caffeine and theobromine, that make your feel better and more alert. Theobromine is a derivative of caffeine and helps you to stay focused, but without any feelings of stress.

Sadly, chocolate in general is not good for your health, because it contains too many added sugars and fats. For this reason, it is much smarter to make a chocolate-flavoured drink using raw cacao from Biotona. It is definitely the best way to make you both healthy and happy!

Pure cacao is not only good for your health, but is also good for your general mood and vitality, as well as giving you lots of extra energy!

Energy and muscles

Cacao further contains essential minerals, such as magnesium and, to a lesser extent, potassium, calcium and iron. Magnesium is an essential mineral, but one that is not found in or produced by the body itself. It is necessary for a wide range of bodily functions, including the transmission of stimuli in muscles and nerves. As a result, it contributes to the good functioning of muscles in general and the heart muscle in particular. Magnesium also helps to combat tiredness, because it plays a key role in the energy metabolism of ATP – the body's most important energy molecule.
